Dr. Rosei gives a seminar and a survival skills lecture at Univ of Missouri Columbia, and a seminar, a survival skills lecture and a public lecture on energy and society at Lakehead University (Thunder Bay, Ontario).

September 2009: L. Nikolova is awarded with Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship D from NSERC. Congratulations to Lily for the prestigeous award!
Dr. Rosei gives an invited talk at the Conference on Interactions Among Nanostructures (US Virgin Islands), two invited talks at ICAM 2009 in Rio de Janeiro and two invited talks at the 4th International Workshop on Surface Physics in Wroclav (Poland).

August 2009: Dr. Rosei gives a seminar and a survival skills lecture at the Schools of MSE and EEE respectively at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

July 2009: L. Nikolova, T. Dembele and A. Dadvand have been awarded with NSERC travel grants for TNT 2009 in Barcelona, Spain.
Dr. Rosei gives invited talks in Symposia B, K and V at ICMAT in Singapore and at ICCE-17 in Honolulu.

June 2009:

June 1st: Dr. Rosei has been promoted to Full Professor at INRS Center EMT

Dr. Rosei gives invited talks at PACRIM 8 in Vancouver, at the International Conference on Advances in Functional Materials (Jiu Zhai Gou, China) and at ISFM 2009 in Jinju (South Korea).

May 2009: Dr. Rosei gives a public lecture on Energy and Society at the University of Western Australia and seminars at CSIRO Clayton and Latrobe University (Melbourne), at the Center for Microscopy, Characterization and Analysis and the School of Physics at the University of Western Australia.
Dr. Rosei gives a lecture on Survival Skills for Scientists at Latrobe University and at Macquarie University (Sydney). He also runs a two-day workshop on Survival Skills for Scientists together with prof. Colin Raston at the University of Western Australia. The workshop was attended by 74 registered participants from UWA, Curtin University of Technology, Murdoch University and Edwin Cowan University.
Dr. Stefano Desinan joins the group as a Post-Doctoral Fellow. Welcome Stefano!

April 2009: Dr. Rosei gives an Invited talk at the SPIE Meeting on Micro-Nanotechnology Sensors, Systems, and Applications, Orlando (USA). He also gives research seminars and public lectures on Energy and Society at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. Johns and Corner Brook, as well as a lecture on Survival Skills for Scientists in St. Johns.
Several group members were acknowledged for their work through prestigious and competitive fellowships from various funding agencies. Liliya Nikolova receives a PhD fellowship from NSERC; Cameron Brown receives a Post-Doctoral fellowship from FRSQ. Chenglin Yan receives Post-Doctoral fellowships from both FQRNT and FRSQ. Congratulations!

March 2009: Dr. Rosei gives a research seminar and a lecture on Survival Skills for Scientists at the Center for Materials Research, Norfolk State University (Norfolk, VA).

February 2009: Dr. Rosei gives a seminar at the School of Biomedical, Biomolecular and Chemical Sciences, University of Western Australia. He also participates in the evaluation of NSERC Discovery Grants in Ottawa as a member of GSC28.

January 2009: Dr. Rosei gives a seminar at the Air Force Research Laboratory in Dayton (OH) and Invited talks at the 33rd Int. Conf. on Advanced Ceramics and Composites, Symposium on Next generation Bioceramics, Daytona Beach, and at Nanobiophysics and Chemistry Conferencechievements 2009, Antigua and Barbuda.
Dr. Cameron Brown, who is employed through the Joint Laboratory on Advanced Materials for Energy, Environment and Health with University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, joins the group. Welcome Cameron! We hope you will survive the winter!

December 2008: Dr. Rosei gives a seminar at the School of Biomedical, Biomolecular and Chemical Sciences, University of Western Australia.

November 2008: Dr. Rosei gives his *Seminar n.100* at the Physics Department, Dalhousie University (Halifax, Nova Scotia). He also gives a lecture on Survival Skills for Scientists.

October 2008: Dr. Rosei gives an Invited Talk at SPBMat in Guaruja', Brazil. Dr. Rosei gives seminars at the Chemistry Department, McGill University (Montreal) and at the EE Department, Old Dominion University (Norfolk, Virginia). He also gives a brief lecture on Survival Skills for Scientists at Old Dominion University.
Dr. Rosei also gives an International Affairs lecture on Energy and Society at the United World College of the Adriatic (Duino, Trieste, Italy).

September 2008: Dr. Rosei gives an Invited Talk at the Symposium on Nanotechnology, MSE conference in Nuremberg (Germany) and then an Invited Lecture at the Nanotechnology School in Jesi (Italy). Dr. Rosei gives a seminar at Monash University (Melbourne, Australia).

July 2008:T. Kadiatou was granted Keren Prize (Best female theory poster in the TNT2008) in Trends in Nanotechnology (TNT), Oviedo (Spain).
A. Dadvand received travel grant for presenting a poster in Trends in Nanotechnology (TNT), Oviedo (Spain) and he was accepted in Junior Nanotech Network (JNN) exchange program, Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich (Germany).
Dr. Rosei gives a Keynote lecture at the NanoSEA 2008 conference in Villa Mondragone (Rome, Italy), an Invited talk at Thin Films 2008 in Singapore, Invited talks at Symposia C (Group IV Nanostructures) and S (Materials Education) at ICEM 2008 in Sydney. He also gives Seminars at COPE, University of Queensland (Exploring Molecular Assembly at Surfaces) and at the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, Queensland University of Technology (Surface Nanopatterning to Control Cell Growth).

June 2008: Dr. Rosei gives a Keynote talk at NanoBioEurope 2008 in
Barcelona, Spain. Dr. Rosei gives an Invited Lecture at the Junior Nanotechnology Network, a Seminar and a Survival Skills Lecture at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands.

May 2008: Dr. Rosei gives a Seminar at the UBC Physics (Vancouver). Lily
receives a PhD fellowship from FQRNT. Therese Dembele' joins the NFL
group.

April 2008: Professor John C. Polanyi, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry is awarded the Herzberg Medal, NSERC's top Science Prize. Watch the video with the interview wit Prof. Polanyi and commentary with Dr. Rosei.
Dr. Rosei gives seminars at the University of Western Ontario in London and at the University of California, Riverside.

March 2008: Dr. Rosei gives a Tutorial lecture and an Invited talk at the IEEE Nanoelectronics Conference in Shanghai.

February 2008: Dr. Rosei visits Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore for one month as Tan Chin Tuan Fellow. During this period he gives a Seminar at NTU on the latest results from the NanoFemto Lab and a Lecture on 'Survival Skills for Scientists'. He also gives a public lecture at the United World College of South East Asia.

January 2008: Dr. Rosei gives Invited talks at the Engineering Science Education Conference at the University of Toronto and at the NanoSymposium
of the American Ceramic Society in Daytona Beach (Florida). He also gives seminars at the University of Moncton and Mount Allison University in New Brunswick.

December 2007: Dr. Rosei gives a seminar at the Physics Department, University of Rome ‘Tor Vergata’. Dr. Rosei gives an invited talk in the plenary session at MRS Africa in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

November 2007: Cristian Victor Cojocaru defends his PhD thesis. The committee members were Prof. R. Morandotti (President), Prof. P. Grutter (McGill), Prof. Y.-A. Peter (Ecole Polytechnique), Prof. A. Pignolet and Prof. F. Rosei. Congratulations Dr. Cojocaru!!!

November 2007: Dr. Rosei gives an invited talk in the nano-Symposium at PACRIM (Shanghai, China).

October 2007: Dr. Rosei gives seminars at the University of Melbourne, the University of Western Australia (Perth), the University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney and CSIRO. Dr. Rosei gives an invited talk at the Virtual Conference on Nanoscale Science and Technology, using Webinar.

September 2007: Dr. Rosei gives an invited talk at the Nano E3 workshop in Stradbroke Island (Australia). A. Dadvand received a grant for presenting a poster in Trends in Nanotechnology (TNT), San Sebastian (Spain).

July 2007: Dr. Rosei gives four invited talks in Symposia E, G, N, M, and co-organizes Symposium B at the International Conference on Materials for Advanced Technologies in Singapore.

May 2007: Fulvio Ratto defends his PhD thesis. The committee members were Prof. D. Guay (President), Dr. G.P. Lopinski (NRC-SIMS), Prof. J. Nogami (University of Toronto), Dr. F.M. Ross (IBM) and Prof. F. Rosei. Congratulations Dr. Ratto!
Dr. Rosei gives invited talks at the International Symposium on Functional Materials (Hang Zhou, China) and in Symposium K at the European Materials Research Society (Strasbourg, France).

April 2007: Dr. Rosei gives an invited talk at LDSD 2007 in San Andres, Colombia. Dr. Rosei gives a colloquium at Iowa State University (Ames, Iowa).

April 2007: FQRNT awards a team grant to Dr. B. Siwick (Project leader, McGill), Dr. F. Rosei and Dr. J.C. Kieffer to develop a Dynamic Transmission Electron Microscope (DTEM). The DTEM will allow to investigate dynamic phenomena at the nanoscale. This ambitious project marks the beginning of the second phase of the 'Nano-Femto Laboratory'.
Dr. Vetrone is awarded the North America Incoming Short Visit Fellowship from the Royal Society to pursue collaborative research on biosensor development in the UK. Also, Dr. Vetrone is a successful recipient of the IUPAC Young Chemists Program.

March 2007: Cristian Cojocaru and Daria Riabinina have been awarded a prestigious and highly competitive two-year Post-Doctoral Fellowship from NSERC.
Fabio Variola has been awarded a highly competitive Ph.D. scholarship given by the Programmes de Bourses D'Excellence pour Étudiants Étrangers from FQRNT.

February 2007: Dr. Rosei gives seminars at Osaka University, Kyoto University, University of Tokyo (Hongo Campus),ICYS-NIMS and NCFS-NIMS in Tsukuba, University of Tsukuba, National University of Singapore and University of Shizuoka (Hamamatsu).

January 2007: Dr. Rosei gives seminars at Yokohama City University, ISSP University of Tokyo, and Riken.

December 2006: Dr. Rosei gives invited talks at IWON3 (Halong Bay, Vietnam)and Thin Films 2006 (Singapore) and a Seminar at IMRE in Singapore.

November 13th 2006: Daria successfully and majestically defends her PhD thesis (internal examiner: Prof. G.G. Ross; external examiners: Prof. R. Martel
(UdeM) and Prof. J. Dubowski (U of Sherbrooke) and is now Dr. Riabinina.
She is the first 'laureate' of the NFL group. We wish her all the best in her future scientific endeavors and career! [excellent caviar...]

October 2006: Dr. Vetrone receives the 1000$ prize in the NSERC Innovation Challenge for his project entitled, “Upconverting Nanoparticles for Bioassay Technology”.

October 2006: Dr. Vetrone is profiled in PanoramItalia.

September 2006: Dr. Rosei gives Invited Talks at TNT 2006 in Grenoble, at the Nanoschool on the Industrial Applications of Nanotechnology in Ancona, and at the Workshop on the Epitaxial Growth and Fundamental Properties of Semiconductor Nanostructures in Bonassola.

September 2006: Cristian presents the poster entitled " Nanostenciling and
pulsed laser deposition: a versatile combination for parallel patterning and
prototyping of functional materials" (C.V. Cojocaru, C. Harnagea, A.Pignolet
and F.Rosei)at Trends in Nanotechnology, TNT 2006 Conference, Grenoble,
France. This contribution has been awarded with the Nano Innovation Platform
(NSERC-CRSNG) award (value of 300 euros).

July 2006: Imperial College Press/World Scientific releases the book "Survival Skills for Scientists" by F.Rosei and T.W.Johnston.

July 2006: Dr. Vetrone receives a travel grant from ICMR (UC, Santa Barbara) and ICYS (NIMS, Tsukuba, Japan) to attend the ICYS-ICMR Summer School on Nanomaterials and is selected to give a Young Researcher talk.

July 2006: Jennifer MacLeod and Josh Lipton Duffin join the nanofemto lab as postdoctoral fellows. Jennifer will work on nanostructured biomaterials and Josh will work on 2D polymers.
Jenny and Josh are the latest winners of the Surface Canada Prize (Jenny in Vancouver 2004, Josh in Kingston 2006). Josh and Jenny got married on June 10th, congratulations and welcome from all NFL members!

June 2006: Daria Riabinina and Afshin Dadvand present posters at the Canadian Nanoforum in Edmonton, Alberta; Fabio Cicoira gives an Invited Lecture at the Summer School on Organic Electronics in Sardegna (Italy); Dr. Rosei gives invited talks at the CAP Congress in St. Catherine's (ON) and at Electroceramics X in Toledo (Spain), gives a talk in the NanoQuebec session at NanoBioEurope in Grenoble (France), and a seminar at ICMAB in Barcelona.

May 2006: Dr. Rosei receives a contract from AFOSR to investigate the synthesis and characterization of 2D polymers, in collaboration with Dr. D.F. Perepichka.

May 2006: Dr. Rosei gives an Invited Talk at ICON 2006 in Choroni', Venezuela.

April 2006: Dr. Krishna G. Nath leaves the Nanofemtolab for a position in industry. We wish him all the best in his future career.

April 2006: Dr. Clara Santato receives a PDF fellowship from CBIE to join the NFL group next September.

April 2006: Dr. D.F.Perepichka (McGill) and Dr. Rosei receive a two years grant from the Petroleum Research Fund (ACS) to study 2D conjugated polymers.

March 2006: to celebrate the high quality / high number of publications of the group in 2006, NFL members organize a snow-fight in the Parking Lot of INRS-EMT.

February 2006: Dr. Rosei gives a Seminar at UCSD (San Diego).

December 2005: Dr. Rosei gives Invited Talks at ISFM (Kuala Lumpur), SICC-4 Singapore and SPIE in Brisbane (Plenary). Dr. Rosei also visits the NANOTEC-NSTDA Center and Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok.

December 2005: Breakthrough news. Sibilla Cicoira is born (December 6th) and is in good health. She is the NFL's first baby. Congratulations to Fabio and Clara from the whole team.

October 2005: an NSERC Collaborative Research and Development Grant is awarded to Dr. Rosei, in Collaboration with Plasmionique, Inc. to study nanostructured biocompatible materials. Collaborators: Prof. Antonio Nanci (UdeM) and Dimitrii Perepichka (McGill).

September 2005: Phan Nam Thang from Vietnam joins the group to pursue his PhD. He will work on electro-optic materials and will be co-supervised by Mohamed Chaker.

September 2005: Girjesh Dubey (Canada) joins the NFL group as an MSc student to study molecular adsorption on Silicon surfaces, in collaboration with Dr. Gregory Lopinski from NRC-SIMS in Ottawa. Girjesh is recipient of a Canada Graduate Scholarship from NSERC.

September 2005: Dr. Fabio Cicoira (Italy) joins the NFL group as a post-doctoral fellow to work on organic electronic devices and molecule-surface interactions. He is partly sponsored by a Government of Canada Award.
