I explore the following research themes, using a combination of experimental techniques including scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), x-ray photoemission electron microscopy (X-PEEM), x-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) and x-ray diffraction (XRD), both in the lab and at synchrotron radiation facilities (ELETTRA, in Trieste, Italy and the Canadian Light Source, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan).

• Self-organized molecular networks
o Symmetry and polymorphism in molecular networks
o Donor/acceptor networks for photovoltaic applications
o Kinetics and self-healing
• Semiconductor heteroepitaxy
o Strain effects and the morphology of Ge islands on Si(111)
• Metallic catalysts
o Model metal-on-single-crystal systems
o Temperature-induced structural transitions in metallic nanoparticles
